INFORMATION, EVENTS, NEWS AND REQUESTS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Editor [Roger Parsons this week] writes: I have the pleasure of helping Phil and Alex edit the Bulletin this week. We hope you will enjoy the selection of reports, information and news stories below. Your contributions are always welcome and appreciated. Please recomend the Bulletin to others who may find it of interest. You can use the "forward to a friend" link at the end of every edition. Roger. Alex Pickwell writes: The Richard Chadd Ecology Book Auction Former two-time president and county recorder for freshwater invertebrates for the LNU, Richard Chadd, had a long-standing history and support for ecological recording in Lincolnshire. Following his passing in 2021, the family of Richard Chadd have donated his ecology books to the Freshwater Biological Association, for which he was also a board member for several years. It is entirely fitting, given Richard's unwavering encouragement and support towards the development of numerous aquatic ecologists both within the Environment Agency and beyond, that these books are being auctioned to provide funds towards student bursaries. If you are interested, please browse the superb selection of books at: https://www.jumblebee.co.uk/auction/detail/auction_id/therichardchaddecologybookauction#none. The auction closes at 6pm on the 10th November, so time is limited to grab a bargain and support a very worthy cause! Donna Nook Seals: Information from Ruth Taylor. 01/11/24 : Seal Count 11 pups, 68 cows, 33 bulls. For "Pupdates" on the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust website, see: https://www.lincstrust.org.uk/get-involved/top-reserves/donna-nook Parking is currently in Stonebridge car park at the end of Marsh Lane. The local landowner will be opening his field car park in November, £5 for all day parking and portaloos will be available. Currently the nearest toilets are the public ones in North Somercotes. No dogs allowed along the seal viewing area when the seals are in to avoid disturbance and disease transference between the species. If possible, avoid visiting at a weekend as it can be very busy with severalthousand people arriving over the two days. There are seal wardens on site to answer any questions you might have. There is private catering on site although not guaranteed to be there every day. There is also a little shop with all proceeds coming to Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust to support our work at Donna Nook. UK long range weather forecast :10-19th November A band of rain across western and northern parts of the UK will move steadily southeast during Sunday, the rain becoming increasingly light and patchy with time. Next week will see a good deal of dry, settled weather as high pressure builds across the UK. However, after a reasonably bright start, increasingly cloudy conditions are likely to develop, with patchy drizzle possible at times and also some fog patches, these slow to clear. After a windy spell across northwestern parts on Sunday, winds will become mainly light, but breezier around the periphery of the UK, especially in the north later. Temperatures will be near or a little above average overall, although some cold nights are possible. From mid-month, possibly turning a little more unsettled, more particularly towards the northwest. *** For Astronomers and Sky-watchers *** Sky At A Glance https://skyandtelescope.org/observing/sky-at-a-glance/ Night Sky - highlights - November https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/blogs/astronomy Full Moons -15th November https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/topics/full-moon-calendar Meteor shower dates - Leonids,6-30 November https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/topics/meteor-shower-guide BBC Sky at Night Magazine website https://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/news *** EVENTS *** *** Grimsby and Cleethorpes Area Group LWT *** Autumn Migrants on Cleethorpes Seafront and at Anthony's Bank - a morning bird walk Carolyn Davis writes On Saturday 23rd November 2024 you are invited to join the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Area Group LWT on a morning bird walk on Cleethorpes seafront and at Anthony's Bank looking for autumn migrants with Graham Hicks.
