Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Sunny spells Wednesday with coastal showers. Cloudier overnight and Thursday as an area of rain makes uncertain northwards progress, perhaps turning to snow over hills. Remaining unsettled Friday. Becoming cold. 1-10 Dec 2023 "Outbreaks of rain and perhaps some hill snow could affect parts of southeast England on Friday before clearing to the east later in the day. Elsewhere, a mixture of sunny spells and showers, with these showers most frequent near coasts. They are likely to be wintry in places, particularly further north where some snow could fall to low levels. Over the weekend and into the start of the following week, cold conditions are expected across the bulk of the UK. Showers will develop, these a mixture of rain, sleet and perhaps snow at times. Some inland areas, especially in the south, could be mainly dry and bright. Later in the week there is an increasing chance that milder, more changeable weather will begin to spread in from the west." *** For Astronomers and Sky-watchers *** Heads up for Auroras later this week from a solar flare on 28th. https://spaceweather.com/  Watch the data come in - and hope for clear skies: https://aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/  Geminids meteor shower peaks on the night of 14 and 15 December 2023 https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/topics/geminid-meteor-shower-uk-dates-how-to-see  Last full moon of 2023 - the Cold Moon 27th December https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/topics/full-moon-calendar  Full Moons 2023 https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/topics/full-moon-calendar December's Night Sky: Highlights - but not until December! https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/blog/astronomy/night-sky-highlights-december-2023 *** Grimsby and Cleethorpes Area Group LWT *** Carolyn Lovely writes: “Birds and Wildlife of the Western Cape Province of South Africa”. BARDNEY - THE GREEN TF120694 R + A Parsons 26/11 Regulars: Pied wagtail, Robin, Wren, Blue Tits, House Sparrows [8], Blackbirds, Starlings [30], LBB Gulls [12+] Jackdaws [12], Woodpigeon [4+], Collared Dove [2+], domestic pigeon [6]. BARDNEY VILLAGE TF117700 Phil and Mary Porter 25th November Walking the dog at about 8:00pm, there was a distant cacophony of wildfowl from around the Branston Island direction, dominated by whooper swans, with male and female tawny owls nearby in conversation at the same time. Very atmospheric. Mary Porter 29th November Our first coal tit for a long time at the feeders. CARLTON LE MOORLAND SK909581 JEREMY HUTCHINSON 26/11/2023 For the first time for a very long time a pair of Goldcrests were seen to be feeding in the Spruce tree in out front garden. Goldcrests used to be frequent visitors until a large Yew (or two) were felled in a garden about 100m away; I thought we'd lost them, so today's sighting was a welcome surprise. Likewise today I had the pleasure of spotting a Little Owl in one of the fruit trees in a garden in Bassingham (which I have mentioned before), for the first time since the Spring, no doubt because leaves have fallen recently. To the best of my knowledge these seem to be the only ones locally which survived the intense heat of July 2022. Red Admiral appearing as soon as the sun has come out right up to 19/11, feeding on late Verbena bonariensis. CHAMBERS FARM WOOD TF1474 Mary Porter and Limewoods WATCH Group 25th November Many types of fungi still present. The most numerous were some lovely funnel fungi, some quite large. I've never seen them out so late in the season. FISKERTON FEN  TF 084718 Eleanore and Ross Smith 15.11.2023 Cetti's warbler singing Egyptian goose (2) Golden plover Green plover Marsh harrier Shoveler We had not gone with the expectation of seeing these birds, so were delighted! FRITHVILLE TF298489 22.11.2023 Pete and Margaret Westcott We have quite a flock of starlings in the surrounding fields, and fieldfare are always around. Two barn owls are roosting in a nearby owl tower, and a third one was a roadkill. We recently had a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker in the garden, but not seen again. The Winter Moth is on the wing, it likes the lighted window. HORKSTOW SE987179 Jenny Haynes 18 November 2023 The white pheasant seen a while ago appeared in my garden under bird feeders. It has a dark mark on its neck and the tail feathers appear to be buff coloured but it was very striking, easily seen through vegetation and even more so when it moved to the stubble field opposite. 22 November 2023 A coal tit and a goldcrest were spotted in the large Christmas tree growing in the back garden. They are quite reliable visitors this time of year. The tree itself, which is at least 35 years old, is getting too big but I’m reluctant to have it cut down because of its wildlife interest! However, records are sent in by a variety of reporters; from complete beginners to professionals. They may vary in reliability and occasionally may be difficult or impossible to verify. If further information is needed please contact: old.museum@yahoo.co.uk Bulletins are sent to Recorders at Lincolnshire Environmental Records Centre [GNLP], Lincolnshire Naturalists' Union and Lincolnshire Bird Club. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 10. BULLETIN PUBLICITY POLICY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When sending in reports, e.g. unusual plants, please report any sensitive news directly to recorders. Not the Bulletin. We don't want to spoil things with unwise or untimely publicity. Thank you. Please respect the interests of wildlife and site owners if you report on national networks. Interest in wildlife is not a licence to act irresponsibly or thoughtlessly to landowners, who may well be partners in important conservation work. [Remember: Views expressed in the Bulletin do not necessarily reflect the policies or opinions of the LNU or associated organisations. In particular this applies to such agencies, especially charities, taking a political stance.] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 11.
