Information, hints, tips and requests ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Editor writes: The Bulletin is a bit late this week as I have been "stuffing" a mailing about the LNU AGM for those members who don't get the Communiqué by email. It explains how we are trying to fulfil our duties and still be Covid-compliant. There are quite a few mammal records this week, also news of a Black Stork juv visiting The Wash reserves, the Pacific Golden Plovers, and lots of Spoonbill reports! Please note the programme below for Wolds Fungi Group forays 2021 with Paul Nichol. LNU Field Meeting are up and running. For details see: https://lnu.org/meetings/ Aidan Neary - LoveLincsPlants Project Officer - writes: I am in the process in coordinating the project’s Lincspirational Plants light show/ projection events and online art auction in October. I will provide more details in the coming weeks. DUNSTON TF064 632 Steve Green 12th August 2021 Red Underwing moth HORKSTOW Jenny Haynes SE987179 7 August 2021 I have quite a few clumps of common knapweed in my garden which readily seeds itself and although it’s an untidy plant that trails across paths and other plants, I like it because it’s attractive to bees. But I’ve just watched two goldfinches picking off the seed heads of a clump net the house. It’s the first time I’ve seen them on these plants and they spent about fifteen minutes harvesting seeds, obviously preferring them to the readily available sunflower hearts in the feeders. I must remember to be not too hasty in cutting back the knapweed in future! I’d like to ask if anyone else has noticed an increase in small garden rodents this year. In my very overgrown, garden, I see what I think are voles, every time I go out, whereas previously, they were rare sightings. Notes about these wildlife reports ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We do our best to ensure accuracy in our reporting but these records are sent in by a variety of reporters, from complete beginners to professionals. They therefore vary in reliability and in a few instances may be difficult or impossible to verify. If further information is needed please contact: old.museum@yahoo.co.uk Bulletins are sent to Recorders at Lincolnshire Environmental Records Centre [GNLP] , Lincolnshire Naturalists' Union and Lincolnshire Bird Club. [Note: Where plants are reported, this is usually because they have been seen and identified in flower.] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 10. The Bulletin's publicity policy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We sometimes withhold details of rare or endangered species. Please point out any sensitive or "tricky" reports of this kind. Sensitive data should go directly to county recorders, please. When sending in reports, e.g. unusual plants, it will be good if you can report any sensitive news directly to recorders rather than via the Bulletin please, as we don't want to spoil things with untimely/unwise publicity. Thank you. https://lnu.org/specialists/ Please respect the interests of wildlife and site owners if you report on national networks. Interest in wildlife is not a licence to act irresponsibly or thoughtlessly to landowners, who may well be partners in important conservation work. *** Codes of Conduct *** Please copy and paste URLs if/as necessary. BSBI Code of Conduct https://bsbi.org/wp-content/uploads/dlm_uploads/BSBI-Code-of-Conduct.pdf BMS Code of Conduct for Responsible Collecting of Fungi https://www.britmycolsoc.org.uk/mycology/conservation/code-conduct - link down. RSPB's birdwatchers' code https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/read-and-learn/watching-birds/code/ [Remember - views expressed in the Bulletin do not necessarily reflect the policies or opinions on the LNU or associated organisations. In particular this applies to such agencies, especially charities, taking a political stance.] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 11.
