Readers hints, tips and requests ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *** From the Editor.... *** Remember to watch the Total Lunar Eclipse on 28th September. See: http://astronomynow.com/2015/09/22/dont-miss-the-totally-eclipsed-supermoon-of-28september-2/ The Taurids [southern] meteor shower between September 10th to November 20th, with a peak on October 10th. Cloud permitting the Moon should not interfere with observations. Has anyone seen a Taurid meteor yet? The Lunar Eclipse suggests we may have a decent Trent Argir this month - but the Environment Agency seems to have done away with their useful page of Aegir times. I can't find details on the Web other then the archived page with directions on where to watch it: http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20140328084622/http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/37905.aspx Apart from my local flood warning page, to me this was by far their most handy information - so why have they dumped it - anyone know? All I can suggest is you look up the high tides and estimate when it might pass Gainsborough. Try: http://www.ukho.gov.uk/easytide/EasyTide/index.aspx In case you miss it, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j64ZboeKXzw There are lots of events and activities listed this week: the Fungus Forays, Chris the Cuckoo, the BTO/Bird Club conference, a visit to RSPB Blacktoft Sands, a Chalk Streams Volunteer day, and lots of seasonal wildlife reports. Heads up for: How to identify wild fruits http://www.discoverwildlife.com/british-wildlife/naturalist-skills/how-identify-wild-fruits How to make your own frog hibernaculum http://www.discoverwildlife.com/british-wildlife/your-garden/how-make-your-own-frog-hibernaculum If you know someone who might find the LNU Bulletin useful, please send them this link and suggest they sign up for it: http://www.lnu.org/wildnews.php Roger p.s . GRASBY Speckled Bush Cricket record 17/9/2015 Roy Harvey det. Brian Redman. Roy Harvey sent in a photo of a Bush Cricket found on his car at Grasby in North Lincs. Brian Redman writes: The image sent was in fact an adult Speckled Bush Cricket female, Leptophyes punctatissima. I have very few records from the North of the County and this is the farthest North so far. One has been reported this year from North Humberside for the first time. Like a lot other Bush Crickets this species appears to be spreading North, but how a flightless species manages to do so is a mystery. Notes about these wildlife reports ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We do our best to ensure accuracy in our reporting but these records are sent in by a variety of reporters, from complete beginners to professionals. They therefore vary in reliability and in some cases they are impossible to verify. If further information is needed on locations or reporters, or if you wish to question/confirm any of these records, contact: rparsons@enterprise.net Bulletins are sent to Recorders at Lincolnshire Environmental Records Centre [GNLP] , Lincolnshire Naturalists' Union and Lincolnshire Bird Club. [Note: Where plants are reported, this is usually because they have been seen and identified in flower.] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 10. The Bulletin's publicity policy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We sometimes withhold precise details of rare or endangered species. Please point out any sensitive or "tricky" reports of this kind. Sensitive data should go directly to county recorders, please. Please respect the interests of wildlife and site owners if you report on national networks. An interest in wildlife is not a licence to act irresponsibly/thoughtlessly to landowners, who may well be partners in important conservation work. [Remember - views expressed in the Bulletin do not necessarily reflect the policies or opinions on the LNU or associated organisations. In particular this applies to such agencies, especially charities, taking a political stance.] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 11.
