Proposed by the Environment Agency and strongly backed by East Lindsey District Council, the Wildlife Trust is championing the proposed scheme and states that it needs support to counter opposition. See: http://lincstrust.org.uk/news/press-release.php?article=392 Here you will find more information and links to comment for or against the proposal. Whatever your views, please make your comments by 30th December. Contributions from Bulletin readers with expertise in managed realignment will be welcome. *** Help for Blocked Emails *** Noel Loxley writes: It may assist some of those with problems, using Windows, if you suggest they add your email address to their 'Safe senders list' or equivalent in their mail reception programmes such as Outlook Express, Outlook or Windows Mail in Vista. Editor adds: While researching the email block issue I came across the following useful website, previously used to find IP address: http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and went to their Blacklist Check link. It was easy to use and nothing significant was to be found, so I can stop blaming t-mobile. Problems are most likely to be recipients' anti-bulk-mail settings, so please follow Noel's advice above if you feel you still have gremlins. *** Heads Up for Quadrantids *** Cloud permitting, the Quadrantid meteors can be seen between 11th and 7th January, with a peak on 3rd Jan, early evening and night. Moonshine may spoil the seeing, so start observing early. *** South Holland Area Group of the LWT *** Colin Faulkner writes with dates for your diary. RSPB WASH Reserves - Frampton Marsh and Freiston Shore http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/f/framptonmarsh/index.asp http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/f/freistonshore/index.asp Recent sightings November 2009 Paul French Frampton Marsh The highly mobile Great White Egret finally made it onto the new habitats on the 5th, and stayed for one afternoon before disappearing into The Wash again. A Black Brant was found with Dark-bellied Brents on the saltmarsh on the 13th and stayed until the 17th at least. The first Water Pipit of the winter arrived on the 2nd, and there were up to four on the 22nd. Other passerines included a small flock of Snow Buntings. Initially there were 10 on the saltmarsh on the 11th, then one on the scrapes on 11th-13th before eight were on the scrapes on 22nd and 14 were there on 29th. Between 1-3 Lapland Buntings were present all month, but mobile and elusive around the entire reserve. Up to 45 Twite were on the saltmarsh from the 11th. Also on the saltmarsh, a survey on the 11th found 256 Rock Pipits, presumably all of the Scandinavian race, littoralis. Duck numbers gradually built up throughout the month as water levels rose, and up to 250 Teal and 140 Wigeon were present by the months end. A Short- eared Owl hunted the marsh on 7th and 11th, and there were up to 3 each of Hen Harriers, Marsh Harriers, Merlins and Peregrines. Freiston Shore Wader numbers started to go down slightly, although there were still 10,000 Knot, 2000 Black-tailed Godwits and over 2500 Dunlin on the reserve early in the month. A Whooper Swan stayed on the lagoon and wetland all month, and was joined by a family group of six on the 19th. Regular Peregrine and Merlin hunted over the reserve, and there were at least two Hen Harriers in the area. A Mediterranean Gull flew south on the 19th. Seawatching in northerly winds on the 30th produced a Little Auk, 3 Pomarine Skus, 4 Great Skuas, 88 Common Scoters, 5 Scaup, 34 Eiders and 55 Kittiwakes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. Notes about these wildlife reports ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We do our best to ensure accuracy in our reporting but these records are sent in by a variety of reporters, from complete beginners to professionals. They therefore vary in reliability and in certain cases they are impossible to verify. If further information is needed on locations or reporters, or if you wish to question/confirm any of these records, contact: rparsons@enterprise.net Bulletins are sent to Biological Recorders at the Lincs. Wildlife Trust, Lincolnshire Naturalists' Union and Lincolnshire Bird Club. [Note: Where plants are reported, this is usually because they have been seen "in flower".] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 10. The Bulletin's publicity policy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We will not be giving precise details of the location of rare or endangered species. Please point out any sensitive or "tricky" reports of this kind. We ask that you respect the interests of wildlife and site owners if you report to national networks. Make a point of explaining site sensitivity and any restrictions on access. An interest in wildlife is not a licence to act irresponsibly/thoughtlessly to landowners, who may well be partners in important conservation work. [Remember - views expressed in the Bulletin do not necessarily reflect the policies or opinions on the LNU or associated organisations. In particular this applies to such agencies, especially charities, taking a political stance.] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 11.
